Accommodation near Kettering Golf Club
Golf was introduced to Kettering thanks to the vision and dedication of Dr. John Allison, who played a key role in founding the local golf club back in 1891.
Arriving in Kettering in 1889 from Coldstream in Berwickshire, Dr. Allison trained in Edinburgh and served as a house surgeon at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary before becoming Kettering’s senior practitioner—a role he held until his retirement in 1930.
As the club’s first captain, Dr. Allison personally reached out to Tom Morris of St. Andrews to design the original nine-hole course, which has since expanded into a full 18-hole layout. In those early days, he could often be seen tending the course himself—mowing the greens in the mornings and carefully truing the holes with a tobacco tin.
